About MBT Shoes

In 1996, MBT revolutionized the global shoe market by developing its unique curved sole construction and forging its own physiological footwear category. More than fifteen years later, MBT’s patented technology has been interpreted by numerous brands, but never matched in its originality or performance. In an increasingly crowded physiological footwear category, MBT has set itself apart as the originator and has continued to lead the way through superior styling and innovations that can help to enhance the natural physiological framework and balance of the body.

How does it work

Through the unique design of its multilayered sole, MBT transforms flat, hard, artificial surfaces into natural uneven surfaces, simulating the walking action of our barefoot ancestors.

Unlike conventional shoes that support and cushion your feet, the unique construction of MBT challenges your sole, and the muscles used to form your posture, to be more active.

This reactive, more supportive muscle action increases shock absorption for joints and discs. Walking more upright not only looks better but automatically makes you healthier and stronger. Your back and joints are strengthened, circulation is increased and breathing is more efficient. MBT lengthens and strengthens your whole body while standing, walking or in gentle running.

Why natural movement is so healthy

The positive effect of the MBT is based on the principle of "natural instability". An effect which can, in fact, be achieved by simply walking barefoot on soft, uneven, natural ground such as sand. However, in today's thoroughly modern world this is not always easy to do. So MBT set out to develop a new kind of footwear, one that would mimic walking on soft, uneven ground. When walking in MBTs, the ground no longer feels flat and stable, so the body has to compensate and create stability.

The key to the patented MBT footwear is the sole construction with the Masai Sensor at its heart. It is located directly beneath the heel and sinking into the sensor provides a comfortable heel strike and creates a natural instability that can help the body generate muscle activity in the lower limbs. The curved sole with its integrated balancing area requires an active and controlled rolling movement that can help the body to improve balance and posture while standing and walking.*

Most muscular and skeletal problems originate from poor posture and faulty gait patterns.

MBT leads from a passive, straining gait to an active gait pattern that is gentler on the back and additionally stabilizes the pelvis and the spine.

With every step taken, MBT is therapeutic and simulaneously preventative.
